What is the Canadian ETA?
The Canadian Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) is a mandatory entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada — including British citizens. It is electronically linked to your UK passport and must be obtained before you travel.
The Canadian eTA is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries into Canada, with each stay limited to six months.

Do Brits need a Canadian ETA?
Yes. British citizens flying to or transiting through Canada are required to hold a valid Canadian eTA before departure. This applies whether you are visiting for tourism, business, or simply connecting through a Canadian airport on your way elsewhere.
The eTA is only required for air travel. If you are entering Canada by land or sea from the UK, different entry requirements apply.

Good to know: The Canadian eTA is linked electronically to your British passport. You don't need to carry any printed documents — just present your passport at check-in and at the Canadian border.
